General Introduction:

The Back Hammer is designed to help to free the DTH hammers and drill strings that have jammed in the drill hole. It can also be used to hammer down or withdraw casings. The Back Hammer is a percussion mechanism in which the impact power is conducted backwards. In case of jamming of any drilling tool in the boring process, the Back Hammer can help drillers save time and money.

When needed the Back Hammer is installed into the drill string, mounted between the borehole gripper and the swivel head, on the drill pipe joint above the drill hole, and the piston of it is started to strike by opening the throttle for the percussion air to the DTH hammer, thus creating a combined effect of effective reverse impact and vibration. The operation must be always combined with light reverse feed force and rotation to the right avoiding the loosening of the joints in the drill string. For hammering down casings, the Back Hammer is simply mounted upside down, whereupon the impact energy is directed downwards. Since it is mounted between the rotation unit and the drill pipes, rotational torque is still transmitted to the entire drill string when the Back Hammer is fitted.

Acedrills’ Back Hammer is comprised of three components and a plastic housing which acts both as an exhaust emissions guider and a muffler. It is sturdy and reliable. With regards to the maintenance, it’s only necessary to keep it clean and the linking section well protected when the Back Hammer is not in use. If the rotation unit or drill pipes have another thread type or size, the appropriate adaptors will be needed.
