General Introduction:

Surface-set diamond core drill bits differ from impregnated core drill bits in that they only have a single layer of diamonds set onto the crown surface of bits according to a pre-determined formulae, its waterways are usually shallower than an impregnated bit because of the single layer of diamonds. Some bits are designed with face-discharge holes to minimize core wash when drilling in soft and fractured formations.

Diamond Grade is the most important factor to take into consideration when selection a surface set diamond core bit. As it affects bit price and total meters drilled, and therefore obviously affects cost per meter drilled. Number of stones is also a very important factor orienting the bit selection too through determining how well a bit will cut.
